The Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, (IPMAN), Enugu Depot Community, Hon Chinedu Anyaso, has promised to lobby the National Assembly and its executive to ensure Nnewi, the Industrial city of Anambra State is granted a special status to revive it dying economic, if elected to represent the good people of Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, ahead of January 16th, 2027 general elections.
Anyaso, made the promised while speaking to Journalists at the Ekwisigo Local Government Headquarters in Ozubulu, on Friday, during the declaration ceremony of Dr Ebuka Onunkwo, who is contesting for Anambra South Senatorial District seat.
The IPMAN chairman, who is eyeing the reps seat under the political platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, noted that over the years, there had been unfruitful agitations for special status for the city, being one of the Nigeria’s economic nerve centre.

He said as an industrialist, he is contesting the seat to revive the dying economic environment of Nnewi community.
According to him, seventy percent of industries in the city are now moribund, which is why I am going to the green chamber to change the poor narrative.
“Nnewi is one of Nigeria and even Africa’s industrial hub, it should not be left to go into total extinction and which is also why I have made myself available to revive the ugly situation, if given the opportunity to represent the Constituency.
“I will partner with the state government under the able leadership of governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo and my other nationwide connections as IPMAN chairman to achieved it.
“Nnewi deserves special status being one among Nigeria’s industrial cities with many manufacturing companies and a huge population.
“Resources of the city couldn’t longer cater for its huge population residing in the city from different tribes, regions and the pressure on social amenities.
“Nnewi has been so critical to the economic development of this country, therefore, it deserves a special attention to maintain it status quo,” Anyaso further advocated.
