ASERC promised Nnewi residents of steady electricity supply in no distance time

The Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission ASERC, has promised its customers in Nnewi, the commercial city of the State of steady electricity supply in no distance time.

The Managing Director of ASERC, Prof Frank Nwoye Okafor, gave the promised while speaking at the ongoing two days Public Consultation on Draft Electricity Regulations that will shape the Anambra State Electricity Market, held at Umuenem hall Nnewi, on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026.

According to him, the commission has resolved to continue to invest in vital distribution infrastructure through FirstPower Distribution Company Limited, a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

He said ASERC is the independent regulator mandated to oversee, guide, and develop all electricity activities within Anambra State, particularly in Nnewi and Onitsha for the benefit of citizens, investors, and operators.

The Commission was established by the Anambra State Electricity Law, 2025 to oversee and guide all electricity activities within the 179 communities that constitute the state.

“We are a corporate body with the authority to license operators, set and review tariffs, enforce standards, and protect the rights of electricity consumers.

“ASERC operates with full autonomy, free from external interference, ensuring that decisions are made transparently and in the public interest.

“The Commission is responsible for regulating the generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, supply, and trading of electricity within the State.

“We promote fair competition, efficiency, and private sector participation while ensuring that consumers receive safe, reliable, and affordable power.

The Commission also supports innovation in renewable and clean energy solutions, helping to expand electricity access across urban and rural communities.

“We are guided by professionalism, transparency, accountability, and service excellence.

Through stakeholder engagement, data-driven regulation, and open communication, ASERC works to balance the interests of investors, operators, and consumers.

Our ultimate goal is to build a transparent, competitive, and sustainable electricity market that drives industrial growth, enhances quality of life, and contributes to the prosperity of Anambra State.

Therefore, the purpose of this all important public consultation meeting held in Nnewi today, is majorly to sample the grievances of Nnewi electricity consumers and to assured them that in no distance time, their complaints of no satisfactory electricity supply after payment will become a talk of the past.

The event was well attended by officials from the FirstPower Distribution Company Limited, member representing Ihiala 2 Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Hon Golden Iloh, Nnewi community leaders, civil society organizations, media and thousands of electricity consumers across the Anambra South Senatorial District.
