Jubilation as Dr Obah Tawo Declares House of Reps Bid

Bendeghe Ekiem came alive on Sunday 19 April 2026 as Dr. Obah Edom Tawo formally declared his intention to contest for the Federal House of Representatives seat for Etung Obubra Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress ADC.

From the ground floor to the upper gallery and every available standing space, the hall was occupied by a diverse crowd of supporters including youths, women, elders, farmers and traders, all reflecting a broad based grassroots presence.

The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as supporters adorned in ADC orange caps waved banners bearing messages of support for the candidate and his campaign message, The Time for Service to the People is Now. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Obah spoke with visible passion and familiarity, engaging the crowd in a manner that suggested deep roots within the community. His delivery, marked by direct gestures and confident interaction, resonated strongly with attendees who responded with sustained applause and chants of support. At intervals, he joined members of his team at the high table, sharing moments of ease and connection that reinforced his image as a candidate closely aligned with the people.

The event also reflected a structured and organised campaign approach. Official letters notifying the Nigeria Police Force Ikom Division and the ADC Cross River State leadership were dispatched ahead of the event, ensuring security presence and party coordination. This adherence to formal processes highlighted a level of preparedness and institutional engagement that goes beyond routine political gatherings.

Observers noted that the declaration served as more than a ceremonial announcement. It offered a clear indication of an emerging political momentum within Etung and its surrounding communities. The scale of attendance, the diversity of supporters and the coordinated execution of the event collectively pointed to a campaign gaining traction at the grassroots level.

With the slogan The Time for Service to the People is Now echoing across the venue, the declaration in Bendeghe Ekiem has positioned Dr. Obah Edom Tawo as a contender to watch in the race for representation of Etung Obubra Federal Constituency.
