Anambra residents complied with Soludo's emergency sanitation exercise

The Anambra State Government on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, recorded high compliance in the emergency environmental sanitation exercise mandated by governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, expressing satisfaction with residents’ participation across the state.

The exercise, held between 6 a.m and 10 a.m, marked the first statewide sanitation effort since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.

Monitoring the exercise, the State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Clem Aguiyi, described the turnout as encouraging, noting that the initiative will gradually gained acceptability among residents.

“It’s a gradual process; people are aware and participating. For a first-timer, I’m highly impress with the large turnout and also impressed with the people excitement.

“The whole idea of what we do today is to ensure that our erosion are evacuated free for this year’s flooding.

“The exercise is just the commencement of chains of events that will happen the Ministry of Environment in 90 days ahead.

“The exercise is part of ongoing efforts to combat gully erosion and flooding in the state.

The Commissioner noted that the compliance ranged between 70-80 per cent, attributing the success to voluntary participation and effective grassroots engagement.

He urged residents to adopt daily sanitation habits rather than limiting cleanliness to the monthly exercise, stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy environment.

Also speaking after the exercise, the Senior Special Assistant to governor Soludo on Media, Dr Ebuka Onyekwelu, said the exercise is part of the governor’s continue effort towards making Anambra a clean, green, livable and prosperous homeland in Nigeria, noting that the state government intensified awareness ahead of the exercise. He also pointed out that the support given by Anambra residents to the exercise is a clear demonstration of confidence in Governor Soludo’s leadership.
