The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, has been listed among the 100 Most Influential Women in Cross River State in the 2026 edition of Leading Ladies in CRS.
Bassey’s recognition is contained in a Notification/Congratolatory letter by the editorial team of the publication, which informed her that she had made the final list following consideration of several nominations.
According to the organisers, the selected personalities were recognised in appreciation of their accomplishments and the inspirational value of their individual stories.

The recognition is particularly significant for Bassey, not only as the leader of the state’s umbrella body for journalists, but also as a woman whose professional and leadership journey has placed her in a position of influence within the media community and the wider Cross River society.
The Letter noted that the public presentation of the Leading Ladies in CRS: 100 Most Influential Women compendium is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. prompt, at the State Library Complex, Cross River State, where they will be issued a certificate of listing as one of Cross River’s Most Influential Ladies
The event, organised by the Cross River State Library Board in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor and the Ministry of Women Affairs is expected to bring together distinguished women whose contributions cut across different sectors, providing an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and document their stories for posterity.
For Bassey, the recognition carries added significance because it places the head of the NUJ Cross River Council alongside other women whose contributions are considered influential in the development of the state.
It is also a moment of pride for the journalism community in Cross River State. As NUJ chairman, Bassey represents thousands of journalists and media practitioners whose work remains central to informing citizens, holding public institutions accountable and documenting the social, political and economic developments of the state.
Beyond the individual honour, her inclusion provides an opportunity for the journalism profession to be represented in a compendium dedicated to celebrating women whose leadership, professional accomplishments and contributions have impacted Cross River.
According to the oganisers, the publication is not merely a collection of profiles, but a compendium of inspirational stories and a memento designed to preserve the legacy and accomplishments of the women featured.
For journalists in the state, therefore, Tuesday’s event is more than the presentation of a book. It represents the celebration of one of their own and an acknowledgement of the growing role of women journalists in leadership, public discourse and the development of Cross River State.
