The Deputy Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Cross River State, Dr Stella Archibong has condemned the attack on Peter Obi during his visit to Benue State.
Dr. Archibong’s remarks follows the recent blockade of the convoy of the NDC presidential candidate in Benue State by some youths.
Obi was travelling from Makurdi to Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area to sympathise with survivors and families of victims of the June 2025 massacre.
He abandoned the journey after youths barricaded the road and prevented his convoy from proceeding.
Dr Stella Archibong condemned the attack in its entirety, saying it’s unbecoming of a democratic society.
“The attack is unfortunate and unbecoming of a democratic society which Nigeria is presumed to be.
“Security agencies and relevant authorities m should urgently investigate this incident and bring perpetrators to justice”, Dr. Archibong said.
She also called for calm over the unfortunate incident and expressed solidarity with Peter Obi and wished him continued safety and good health.
The confrontation on the NDC presidential candidate is the second controversy in less than two years over Obi’s attempt to undertake a humanitarian visit to Benue.
In April last year, the former Anambra State governor accused the state government of frustrating his planned visit to internally displaced persons and a nursing school, triggering a public disagreement between him and the government.
