In what has been described as one of the fastest political U-turns in the state’s recent history, David Asim Agbor, the former Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Etung Chapter, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) just six days after crossing the aisle.
Agbor’s brief stint in the opposition party came to an abrupt end after he concluded that the promises used to lure him into the PDP fold in Etomi Ward, Etung Local Government Area, were empty.
Welcoming Agbor back at his residence in Calabar, Barrister Gilbert Agbor, Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on Asset Management and Recovery, praised the youth leader for his courage and political maturity.

“We welcome David Asim Agbor back to the APC fold. His return is a reminder that sometimes, the shortest political journey teaches the longest lesson,” the Special Adviser said.
Comparing the brief defection to a brush with disaster, Gilbert added, “You just escaped a fatal crash, because you were going to board an airplane whose pilot just jumped out; a total crash was inevitable for you. But I thank God you escaped on time.”
The Special Adviser also commended the former PDP State Party Chairman, Barrister Venatius Ikem, describing him as wise and smart for his recent resignation, while assuring prospective returnees that the APC’s doors remain open. He further lauded Governor Otu’s administration for its “people first” mantra, expressing confidence that the state is on a steady path to economic and infrastructural renewal.
Speaking on his return, Agbor clarified that his brief move was never a genuine defection, but rather “a case of falling to the devil’s temptation to embark on a six-day protest against his family.”
He expressed deep gratitude to Barrister Gilbert and Dr. Cyril Abang Agbor, Head of the Department of Anatomy at the University of Calabar, who was also present at the reception, for their swift intervention. According to him, their guidance quickly opened his eyes, prompting his immediate return and cementing his total loyalty to the APC.
The homecoming event drew a high-profile gathering of party stakeholders and dignitaries. Among those present to add energy to the occasion were Dr. Mrs. Blessing Egbara, the APC candidate for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency; Mr. Isek James, State Secretary of the APC; university don, Dr. Emmanuel Awubi; former APC Obubra Chapter Chairman Mr. Denis Egor; Mr. Nsiyan Ogar Okey (Dubest); and Mr. George Sunday.
