Army helicopters crash in Alaska

Two U.S. Army AH-64 Apache attack helicopters crashed on Thursday while returning from a training exercise in Alaska.

The aircraft were en route to Fort Wainwright near Healy and each carried two passengers, Fox News reported. A U.S. Army spokesperson had no information as to the condition of those on board.

The cause of the crashes remains unclear, but first responders are on the scene and the incident is under investigation. Both aircraft were part of the 1st Attack Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, the 11th Airborne Division confirmed.

In late March, an unrelated crash involving two Blackhawk helicopters based in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, led to the deaths of nine servicemembers.
