A Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix named Rocky was attacked on Monday night (April 24) at around 8.30pm on Northlands Street.
The attacking dogs reportedly acted “without reason” and were allegedly off the lead at the time of the attack.
Rocky sustained multiple fatal wounds, including a broken spine and punctured lungs.
Video footage shows a man attempting to pull the attacking dogs away from the scene while a woman and man comforted Rocky on the ground.
Rocky’s owner, who would like to be kept anonymous, shared their devastation, stating that their dog didn’t even have time to sniff the attacking dogs before being fatally attacked.
They said: “I am devastated since I had to see him fight for his life without him doing anything bad.
“Me and my dad tried our best to separate the dogs, but it wasn’t enough, he lasted around 10-15 minutes grabbing him.
“I ran to the local vet and sadly had to see my dog go through the worst.”
Rocky’s owner says that he was well-known in Ruskin Park and will be greatly missed by his community.
After the attack, they took to social media to appeal for help in locating the dogs responsible and their owner for “justice”.
They claim that the dogs have been known to act aggressively in the past and have been seen since the incident off lead.
The owner said the aggressive dog’s owner has not tried to contact the family or showed any type of concern about whether Rocky was alive or dead.
