Around 3:15 a.m., Hollywood Police received a call for assistance from Golden Beach Police. Officers, along with Sunny Isles police officers, were trying to stop suspects driving a stolen car north on Ocean Drive, according to a media release from Deanna Bettineschi, a spokesperson for the Hollywood Police Department.

The suspects lost control of the car as they were turning onto Hallandale Beach Boulevard, got out and began to run away, the release said. Golden Beach police officers ran after them. During the chase, the sergeant was shot twice in the arm.

As of late Saturday morning, he was in stable condition and going into surgery, the release said. The shooter and another suspect were arrested. The release did not identify the suspects or the sergeant.

“We are grateful the injuries to the Sergeant are not more severe,” the release said. The investigation is ongoing.
