On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, we celebrate an outstanding young woman whose capacity, influence, and leadership have earned her recognition far beyond her age and status Utibe Abasi Orok Bassey Duke.
Utibe Abasi has consistently demonstrated remarkable leadership and dedication to empowering women and young people. Her ability to mobilize, inspire, and organize women across different communities has positioned her as one of the emerging female voices shaping conversations around development and inclusion in Cross River State.
Known for her strong advocacy for women’s participation in leadership and economic development, Utibe Abasi has created platforms that bring together women from all backgrounds both indigenes and non-indigenes across the state’s senatorial districts. Through her engagements, she continues to inspire young women to believe in their abilities, pursue leadership, and contribute meaningfully to society.

Her impact is not limited to the state alone. Utibe Abasi has represented Nigeria in global discussions on economic development, including Cross River State which is a multi-stakeholder initiative co-convened by UN Women and the Government of Mexico (INMUJERES). It is supported by a broad coalition including various national governments (e.g., Canada, Germany, Spain), international organizations. Her work and contributions have been recognized and documented by various international, national, and local media platforms.
She also maintains close engagement with global institutions such as UN Women, aligning her advocacy with international efforts aimed at advancing gender equality, Care and empowering women.
Utibe Abasi’s Capacity extends beyond mobilization. She is known for her ability to bring people together for meaningful causes. Notably, she became the first female appointee in the state to host an International Men’s Day celebration, recognizing and honoring men who have contributed positively to the growth and development agenda for a better administration of Bassey Edet Otu who is the Governor of Cross River State.
Her influence among women and youth across Cross River State is evident in her ability to gather large numbers of women, girls, and young leaders for developmental conversations, empowerment programs, and advocacy initiatives.
Despite her youth, Utibe Abasi continues to demonstrate wisdom, exposure, and global perspective through her interactions with international organizations and participation in global platforms. Her passion for service, leadership, and social impact continues to inspire many young women across the state and beyond.
