Madonna lauds late brother for sowing a seed into her life

On Tuesday, Madonna posted a homage to her deceased brother on her Instagram Story. The elder brother of Madonna, Anthony Ciccone, passed away on Friday night at the age of 66.

“Thank you for blowing my mind as a young girl and introducing me to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddhism, Taoism, Charles Bukowski, Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac, Expansive Thinking, Outside the Box,” she wrote alongside a group photo with Ciccone and some friends.

“You planted many important seeds,” the Queen of Pop added.

Joseph Henry, Ciccone’s brother-in-law, posted on Instagram on Saturday to share the news of his passing. Melanie Ciccone, the younger sister of Madonna, is Henry’s wife. Henry wrote in the post that Anthony Ciccone had a difficult life and had a tight relationship with his family.

“Anthony was a complex character, and god knows: we tangled in moments, as true brothers can,” Henry wrote. “But I loved him, and understood him better than I was sometimes willing to let on.”

The oldest child of Madonna and Silvio Ciccone, Anthony Ciccone was born on May 3, 1956, in Rochester, Michigan. As a singer-songwriter and actress, his younger sister Madonna rose to international recognition.
