Students lauds Soludo's fight against cultism

Students under the umbrella of National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS), has commended governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s aggressive fight against cultism in Awka, schools and across the 21 local government areas in the state.

The students argued that since the assumption of Prof Soludo as the executive governor of Anambra State in 2022, many students have graduated without anyone forcing them to join cultism as it was in previous administrations.

The commendation was made by the National President of NUASS, Comrade Felix Nwachinemelu, on behalf of the students during it 2026 Anambra Students Cultural Fiesta’s 2.0, held at Awka City Stadium Awka, on Friday, March 27th, 2026.

According to him, governor Soludo has signed a law prohibiting Secret Cults in Anambra State. This measure seeks to ban the formation and operation of clandestine cult groups, impose stringent penalties on offenders, and reinforce the state’s efforts to maintain public order and security.

The law prohibiting secret cult activities in Anambra State is designed to outlaw the formation, membership, and operation of clandestine cult groups that threaten public safety and social order. It seeks to prevent engagement in any activities or rituals associated with these groups, which are often linked to criminality and violence.

The measure reflects the state’s commitment to upholding community safety, ensuring that all citizens can enjoy a secure and stable environment.

“With this Law, I can said it for free without fear or favor, has saved millions of Anambra youths, mostly students from involvement. Today, students in Anambra State go to their various schools without any fear of intimidation and harassment.

“The just concluded peaceful 2026 Anambra Students Cultural Fiesta’s 2.0 is as a result of the conducive environment the present administration of governor Soludo has created.

“As you can see, the event went and ended peacefully without presence of any security operatives.”

The fiestas has in attendance students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Anambra College of Education Nsugbe and other higher Institutions in the state.

Comrade Nwachinemelu, who is also the convener of the event, while canvasing for more student-friendly policies by the government commended the Soludo administration in the state for his youths empowerment programs (One youth two skills initiative), infrastructural development especially roads and bridges which he said has continued to boost businesses, called for solutions that will check constant power outages which he said is the bane for industrial growth and development.

The event with the theme: Ogene Odogwu Na Omenala: Celebrating the beauty of Igbo Heritage,  has other special guests in attendance, member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon Afam Victor Ogene, represented by Chief Okechukwu Obetta, Mazi Ejimofor Opara (APGA National Publicity Secretary), Dr Nelson Obinna Omenugha and thousands of students.

The event also featured donation of N1million by 2027 APGA House of Representative aspirant for Awka North/South Federal Constituency, Ozo Dr Azubuike Ekweozor and N2million from Ichie Nwoye Oba-Chinedu.
