…Doles out cash, other gifts
In commemoration of the 2026 Children’s Day, the member representing Cross River in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, PhD, hosted children across Wards 4 and 5 in Calabar South Local Government Area.
The event, which took place at Amayo Duke School, Egerton, saw hundreds of enthusiastic children, accompanied by their mothers, gathered to mark the annual day dedicated to celebrating the potential and rights of the Nigerian child.
During the event, Duke reaffirmed his long-standing commitment to community development, youth empowerment, and child welfare. Highlighting the critical need to support children from grassroots communities, Duke emphasized that investing in their education, moral upbringing, is the most secure way to guarantee a peaceful and prosperous future for the state.

As a practical demonstration of support, the NDDC State Representative doles out substantial cash gifts, foodstuffs and various other packages to the children in attendance.
Beyond the celebration, Duke used the opportunity to attend to parents whose children had special needs such as financial assistance for health challenges and educational support.
Young athletes were however not left out, as the celebration moved to the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar, where Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, met teenage table tennis players and swimmers. Apart from donating a back of rice to the swimmers, he also gave each and everyone of them the sum of N5,000.
The celebration at the stadium was witnessed by the Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Hon. Lawrence Etta.
