Stakeholders of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has accused it Awka South counterpart of denying them of House of Representative slot for 23 years.
The stakeholders pleaded for the unflinching support of Awka South LGA in the spirit of equity, justice and fairness, noting that Awka South has occupied the position for 23years out of 27years of Democracy in Nigeria.
They called on the attention of the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo to the development in the Constituency with a view to remedying it as soon as possible.
They made the accusation during their emergency meeting, held at Grand East Hotel Awka, on Sunday, April 19th, 2026.
It was gathered that the meeting convene by the former executive chairman of Awka North Council Area, Chief Cosmas Okonkwo, may be unconnected to the recent party’s resolution to settle for direct primaries (Option A-4 for it aspirants) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking further, Okonkwo, appealed to the Awka South APGA leaders and supporters to use the 2027 general elections as a pay back time for what Awka North have done for them for twenty three good years, and allow the North to have a taste of the green chamber of the National Assembly (House of Representative) again.
“This emergency meeting is not for us to binding words with the people of Awka South but to appeal to them to support us this time around for the sake of fairness, equity and justice.
“This political marginalization is too much for us to bear, which is why we are passionately appealing to our Solution governor and the National Working Committee NWC of our great party, APGA ably led by Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa to help us address the matter before the conduct of the party’s primaries.
“We are tired of being follow, follow. We want their unalloyed support this time around.
Okonkwo urged members to commence aggressive digital registration of new members across the council area to build up voting strength ahead of the primaries.
Also speaking, a former member representing Awka North State Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon John Nwokoye, used the meeting to officially inform the stakeholders and general public of his intention to contest for the 2027 Awka North/South Federal Constituency seat.
Nwokoye appealed to the stakeholders to rally round his aspiration, noting that his representation will bring to an end the 23-years old political marginalization in the Constituency.
According to him, “I am contesting for the race to end the 23-years old political marginalization in Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
“My representation will be on 50-50 basis(50 percent for Awka North and 50 percent for Awka South) respectively.
“If elected, I will build two functional offices in the two council areas for effective and emergency attention. I will ensure yearly town all meeting to showcase my scorecard, I will equally ensure a cordial relationship with the state and federal government to attract employment, especially, civil service jobs for my constituents.
He also appealed to governor Soludo and the leadership of APGA to zone the reps ticket to Awka North Local Government Area in the unified interest of fairness, equity and justice.
Other dignitaries present during the meeting include, the current member representing Awka North State Constituency, Hon Chimezie Ikwunne, National convener of APGA Apostle, Hon Anthony Doga, the 2027 aspirant for Awka North State Constituency, Chief Chris Nwokedi and president generals of all the communities in the council area.
