Arthur Jarvis University located in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, has officially matriculated a total of 255 students into its Basic, Applied, and Social Sciences programmes.
The milestone event comes on the heels of major academic success for the institution, arriving just months after an Arthur Jarvis University graduate achieved a first-class result at the Nigerian Law School.
Speaking at the institution’s 10th matriculation ceremony on Friday, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ekpe Edet, highlighted the university’s rapid transformation since it commenced operations in 2017.

“From that humble beginning, the university has grown steadily into a vibrant academic community with over 1,000 students and approximately 300 staff members across six faculties,” Prof. Edet stated.
He noted that the university originally opened its doors with just 49 students across two faculties, adding that its current expansion reflects the institution’s “vision, resilience, innovation and commitment to excellence.”
Arthur Jarvis University currently offers an expansive array of programmes, including Law, Nursing Science, Optometry, Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, Criminology, Mass Communication, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Entrepreneurship, Political Science, Sociology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology.
The Vice Chancellor revealed that a major milestone was reached in October 2025 with the establishment of the university’s Postgraduate School. The school currently offers Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s, and PhD levels in Law, Accounting, Nursing Science, Criminology and Security Studies, and Computer Science.
Looking forward, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved several new undergraduate programs for the 2026/2027 academic session. These include Artificial Intelligence and Telecommunication Science; Community Health Science; Intelligence and Security Studies.
Others are Architecture and Building Technology; Estate Management, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Quantity Surveying, and Environmental Management.
Furthermore, the NUC has approved new postgraduate programme in Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Public Administration, Microbiology, Business Administration, and an Executive MBA programme.
“This approval is not merely an administrative milestone; it is a strong endorsement of the university’s capacity, quality of resources and readiness to deliver globally competitive education,” the VC stated. He confirmed that all existing programmes have secured full accreditation from the NUC and relevant professional bodies, including the Council for Legal Education and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Beyond traditional classroom learning, Professor Edet highlighted the university’s strides in research through its Trado-Medical Research Institute (the Institute of Complementary and Alternative Medicine), which focuses on indigenous herbal research for critical diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and fibroids.
Additionally, the university’s Entrepreneurship Development Centre is actively bridging the gap between industry and academia by equipping students with vocational skills and business support.
“This approach ensures that our graduates become not only job seekers but also job creators capable of contributing meaningfully to national development,” he said.
Addressing the newly admitted students, the Vice Chancellor urged them to uphold the institution’s core values and strictly avoid social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, and violence.
“As you begin this new chapter of your lives, I urge you to embrace the core values of discipline, hard work, integrity, innovation and excellence,” he advised.
Speaking on behalf of the matriculating students, Bomfon Iboro expressed gratitude to the university management for the opportunity to study at the institution.
“We are proud to be part of Arthur Jarvis University at this important stage of its growth. We will remain committed to academic excellence and discipline,” Iboro stated.
