As the world marks this year 2026 hypertension day, wife of the Anambra State governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has residents of the state to prioritise regular medical check-ups to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

Mrs Soludo who stated this via statement released in Awka, on Thursday, to commemorate the day, said routine blood pressure checks and early diagnosis remain critical to preventing deaths from cardiovascular diseases. She noted that many people living with hypertension were often unaware of their condition until severe complications emerged.

According to her, “This Hypertension Awareness Month, let’s remember that high blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it exists without obvious symptoms. Yet, with simple daily lifestyle choices and regular medical checks, it can be detected early, prevented, and properly managed.

“As always, I encourage everyone to make their health a priority: check your blood pressure regularly, reduce salt intake and eat healthier meals, stay physically active, avoid excessive alcohol and smoking, manage stress and get enough rest, and visit a healthcare expert when necessary.

“Remember that a healthy Anambra State begins with healthy families and a healthy you. Let’s continue to spread awareness, encourage one another, and take deliberate and important steps toward healthy living,” the first lady concluded.
