Distance self from drug abuse, it robs dreams, Soludo's wife urges Anambra youths

The wife of governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has called on Anambra State youths to distance self from drug abuse to avoid being rob of future dreams.

Mrs Soludo made the called in her message to commemorate the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed every June 26.

She described drug abuse as a threat to the future of young people, saying it steals dreams, destroys potential and weakens the fabric of homes and communities.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, is marked to raise awareness about the major societal problems caused by illicit drugs and to strengthen global action toward a society free of drug abuse

The theme for this year’s commemoration is – “World drug problem: persisting issues, new challenges, innovative responses”.

She called on parents, teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders to renew their commitment to protecting children and youths from the dangers of substance abuse through sustained awareness, prevention and support.

According to her, drug abuse continues to rob many young people of their aspirations and opportunities, with far-reaching consequences for families and society.

“Drug abuse steals dreams, destroys potential and future, and weakens the fabric of our homes and communities,” she said.

The governor’s wife stressed that collective action remained essential in addressing the menace and safeguarding the future of the younger generation.

She expressed confidence that with the cooperation of government, families, schools, religious organisations and communities, Nigeria could build a healthier, safer and drug-free society.

“With all hands fully on deck, we can build a healthier, safer and drug-free society where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

“Say no to drug abuse,” she advocated.
