The Anambra State coordinator of Special Marshall, Ogbusa Michael, has said 99 percent of road crashes in Nigeria are caused by human factors.
He disclosed this while speaking to Journalists during this year 2026 Special Marshall Zonal Conference organized by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Duties and External Relations Special Marshall Section Zone RSS Headquarters, Benin City, Edo State, held at the Special Marshall’s Secretariat, FRSC Sector Command Awka, on Saturday, September 26th, 2026.
Michael disclosed the human factors to include; poor vehicular maintenance, drinking of excessive alcohol, phone-call, over-speeding, over-loading, wrongful over-taking and impatient while on steering.

He said the conference aimed at educating Anambra residents, especially, drivers on the danger of being in the haste to catch up yuletide largesse in expense to innocent lives.
“The conference is also to educate ourselves on how to improve on the road especially, during this ember months season.
“99 percent of the accidents on Nigeria roads are caused by human behaviours, human errors and not so much the infrastructure itself. Accident is caused by the person using the road and not the road itself,” the State coordinator noted.
He suggested to the Federal Government to allow FRSC personnel to also used arms for self-defense amidst harassment, intimidation and other humiliations they go through at times on lonely Nigeria roads.
In his remark, the National Coordinator, Special Marshall Nigeria, Dr Adaji Usman, admonished the public and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to pay more attention to the human factors as earlier mentioned by the Anambra State coordinator.
He said the conference is again to strengthen the already existing synergy between the Special Marshall and FRSC in the zone.
“Special Marshals do not have a separate standalone mission or vision statement; instead, we operate directly under the overarching vision and mission of our parent body, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
“We are rendering a collaboratively service with the FRSC to sustain a safe motoring environment towards achieving zero road traffic death.
“We engaged more on safety management activities through sustained public enlightenment (radio and television jingles), stakeholder cooperation, prompt rescue services, and effective patrol operation with our personal resources. Nigeria government is not sponsoring what we are doing.
“Our objective is to support the regular corps in realizing this national safety mandate.
“Our localized focus centers on advocacy and education, acting as role models in Nigeria communities and workplaces to promote positive road usage habits,” Usman noted.
He passionately appealed to Anambra road users to drive with patient, especially during the ember months to enable them celebrate the upcoming Christmas and new year festivals with their love ones.
In her goodwill message, the Anambra State FRSC Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, commended the Special Marshall for its continue commitment towards a safe Nigeria.
She noted that road safety is an economic, development and strategic issue that requires collaboration from everyone to achieve.
The Sector Commander therefore called on the public and all relevant partners to continue to collaborate in the quest for more safer roads in Anambra and the county as a whole.
The event with the Theme; “Repositioning Specials For Greater Impact Through Strategic Partnership And Data-Driven Road Safety Intervention”, also had in attendance security agencies and road users.
