The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, visited the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, where he charged corps members to embrace entrepreneurship, build meaningful networks and prioritise their security.

Addressing the 2026 Batch C, Stream I corps members, Brig Gen Nafiu described the skills acquired through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as a vital asset for life after service, emphasising that “the skill you learn is your saving grace.”

On security, the Director-General assured them that the NYSC was working with relevant security agencies to prevent a recurrence of the reported kidnapping of prospective corps members. He cautioned against night journeys and urged them to remain vigilant and responsible throughout their service year.

Brig Gen Nafiu also advised corps members to accept their places of primary assignment in good faith, stressing that competence and practical skills were as important as academic grades. He further urged them to respect the people, cultures, traditions and laws of their host communities.

Earlier, the Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, welcomed the Director-General and reported that the corps members were disciplined, while camp officials and corps members were working together as a team.

The visit featured the inspection of the Quarter Guard mounted in honour of the Director-General, cultural dance performances by the NYSC cultural troupe and a martial arts demonstration that earned his admiration. The corps members also gave him three hearty cheers.

As a gesture of goodwill, Brig Gen Nafiu donated two cows to the corps members and personally served them lunch, underscoring his concern for their welfare.

The visit reinforced the NYSC management’s commitment to corps members’ welfare, skills development, security awareness and responsible national service.
