The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has described former PDP state chairman, Ntufam Edim Inok Edim, as a liar over allegation that he diverted his N5 million court fund.
Edim, who contested for the House of Representatives in 2023 and lost to Labour Party’s Hon. Bassey Akiba, had in a viral video trending on social media alleged that Eba embezzled N5 million given to him by the state government to prosecute his case at the Court of Appeal.
“When I had a court case, I went to appeal court. The little sum of money the state gave me, to assist me at the court of appeal, N5,000,000 Alphonsus Eba embezzled the money,” Edim said at a political event in Calabar at the weekend.

In the video, Edim claimed that the fund was meant to assist him in pursuing his election petition but was allegedly diverted by Eba, who was then a key party figure.
But in a swift reaction to the issue, via a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Eba said the allegation was not only false but baseless.
He attributed the outburst to frustration, and desperation ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that Edim was seeking cheap political relevance.
“Just to let you know there is never anything like that, it’s false. Is he a child that such amount of money would be given to him through me. He is a liar, who is seeking for cheap political relevance. I can assure you that Edim has long lost his political relevance.
“I gave this fellow a ticket and he went and slept to an extent that he was beaten up to a pulp, and today he wakes up from the slumber and begins to rant ? Let’s not worry ourselves. Let me assure you that I am going to beat him in his ward and indeed even in his political unit,” Eba maintained.
He dared Edim to provide proof of the transaction and promised a N50 million bounty if he can prove who gave the money, when it was given, and that it was routed through him.
