In a move that signals a fresh wave of political engagement in Cross River State, Phylo Modlin Odu has officially declared her intention to contest for the Boki Constituency II seat in the State House of Assembly.

Positioning herself as a “daughter of the soil,” Odu’s declaration is built on a platform of compassionate leadership, accountability, and a promise to bridge the gap between the government and the governed.

Addressing her constituents in a statement on Monday, Odu stated that her decision to run was not an impulsive one, but the result of extensive research into the legislative process and its potential to tangibly improve local lives.

“I do not believe that governance should be distant from the people it was created to serve,” Odu declared. “It has been my advocacy that leadership can still be honorable, thoughtful, and effective. It must be compassionate, sincere, and accountable.”

Running under the slogan “Your Friend in Government,” Odu emphasized that her candidacy represents a shift toward more accessible representation. She pledged to be a “motivator for women” and a “hope for young people,” promising to be a representative who acts as an “ear that will listen” and a “tongue that will speak.”

Her proposed mission focuses on three primary pillars which are championing laws that directly improve the standard of living for the people of Boki; increasing transparency so that citizens understand policy-making and what is obtainable from the government. And finally, promoting a culture of responsible governance through renewed energy and intelligent representation.

The declaration comes at a time when constituents are increasingly calling for representatives who offer more than traditional political rhetoric. Odu has promised a “difference you can feel” and a “bond you can trust.”

“I bring fresh ideas, renewed energy, and intelligent representation,” she noted. “I humbly ask for your prayers, your support, and your trust as we embark on this journey.”

As the political season gains momentum in Boki, Odu’s entry into the race is expected to spark significant conversation regarding the role of women and youth in the future of Cross River’s legislative landscape.
