Ogugua assures Anambra School Principals of better welfare

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua has assured secondary school principals in the state of the government’s continue support to their working condition.

Ogugua gave the assurance at a one-day interactive session with principals held at the ASUBEB Utility Hall in Awka, on Tuesday.

He noted that the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo remains committed to improving education and equipping students with 21st-century skills.

While speaking on some critical issues, the Commissioner, said the meeting was aimed at familiarising with school managers and outlining the administration’s vision of making Anambra’s education system first-class in Nigeria, and reiterated the importance of the free education policy, warning principals against violating it, while urging them to ensure the safety of students and school property.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, congratulated Dr. Ogugua on his appointment and pledged support towards achieving the government’s education goals.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Mrs. Benedine Anagor, described principals as key drivers of government policies and assured the Commissioner of their cooperation.

Some of the principals highlighted their challenges, including insecurity, lack of fencing, shortage of teachers, inadequate classrooms, non-functional computer systems, and the need for new school buses, among others.

Responding, Dr. Ogugua promised to present their concerns to the Governor, expressing confidence in the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges.
