The Board of Trustees of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools NAPPS has taken over the leadership of its Cross River State chapter following the protracted crisis rocking the association.
Announcing the takeover on Tuesday in Calabar, the BoT member representing South-South Zone and sole Interim Authority for Cross River State, Elder Obong Edet Iwang Udo, said the national leadership had dissolved the two factions laying claim to the state chairmanship.
He identified the sacked factions as those led by Mr. Godwin Ukwu and Pastor Abraham Osok, adding that the action was in compliance with a directive from the National BoT Chairman, Dr. Mijinyawa Sa’id, whose letter dated July 12, 2026, stated that “all NAPPS activities in Cross River State had been suspended pending outcome of investigations by a special committee to be constituted by the BoT.”

As part of measures to reposition the association, Udo disclosed that the BoT has appointed the Ikom chapter in the Central Senatorial District to host the 2026 NAPPS Day celebration scheduled for October 12.
He said the decision to pick Ikom was strategic. “The BoT has also issued an instruction that NAPPS Day can only hold where they designate anybody to take charge of that celebration as a symbol.
” I have chosen Ikom local government chapter to serve as the symbol for NAPPS Day because it is centralized. I have appointed Mr. Bassey Nsan to serve as coordinator for that celebration,” he said.
Udo stressed that only the Ikom chapter chairman is authorized to collect levies for the celebration on behalf of the association, warning proprietors against dealing with the sacked factional leaders.
“The only one authorized to collect levies for NAPPS Day celebration is the chapter chairman of NAPPS Ikom in the Central Senatorial District.
“This is because the BoT gave authorization to collect funds for NAPPS Day celebration on behalf of the body.
“Any school proprietor who pays levy to either of the warring chairmen other than paying to Mr. Bassey Nsan does so at his own peril,” he warned.
The BoT member called on proprietors across the three senatorial districts to participate fully in the Ikom celebration with impactful programmes, while urging those still flouting the BoT’s suspension order to desist “so as not to face the wrath of the law.”
