The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State chapter, has projected a target of at least 2.5 million votes for the state in the upcoming 2027 General Elections, citing massive grassroots mobilization and intense stakeholder collaboration.
The council made the declaration during a press conference in Calabar on Saturday.
Addressing journalists, State Chairman of IPAC, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, urged all eligible residents to take advantage of the final days of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Okon declared that Cross River’s future and political leverage within the country hinge directly on citizen participation. Coming under the mantra of “No Voter’s Card, No Voice; No Registration, No Participation,” IPAC stressed that a higher voter turnout is crucial for strengthening the state’s democratic mandate.
“A higher voter population means a stronger democratic mandate, greater political relevance, increased national recognition, and a louder voice for Cross River State in determining the future of Nigeria,” he stated.
To achieve the 2.5 million target, the Council revealed that it has been working closely across all the 18 local government areas alongside INEC, civil society organizations, traditional rulers, religious bodies, and market associations to ensure complete inclusivity.
IPAC, the umbrella body of all registered political parties in the state also used the platform to commend the state governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
It praised Governor Otu for fostering an environment where dialogue and cooperation take precedence over political division, noting the Governor’s practical support in enhancing the Council’s operational capacity.
“The Governor’s support to IPAC through the provision of an operational vehicle, a befitting and well-furnished Secretariat, and his consistent open-door policy towards all political parties… has significantly enhanced our capacity to discharge our constitutional responsibilities,” the Chairman stated.
Reaffirming its advisory role, IPAC pledged to continue working constructively with the state government to maintain political stability, promote peace, and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach all residents.
As the CVR exercise enters its final phase, the council made a passionate appeal to parents, youth leaders, and community heads to serve as ambassadors for voter registration.
IPAC also extended its gratitude to INEC officials for their tireless efforts in ensuring a smooth registration exercise. Warning against political apathy, Engr. Okon reminded citizens that history favours participants rather than onlookers.
“Let no one sit at home because they think their vote does not matter. Every Permanent Voter’s Card is a weapon against political apathy,” he submitted.
