Obubra/Etung Reps Aspirant, Ogar Promises Service-driven Representation

A House of Representatives aspirant for Obubra / Etung federal constituency, Hon Amba Ogar Ogar has promised a different scope of representation if sent to the Abuja’s Green Chamber.

In a chat with our reporter, Hon Ogar, the Managing Director of Goldstar Hotel & Resort, a cocoa merchant who is the immediate past secretary of the Cross River State Cocoa Allocation Management Committee, noted that “leadership is not an opportunity to amass wealth, it is not a position for exploitation, it is a solemn call to render service.”

According to him, the driving force of all thriving democracies anywhere in the world is the desire to render service to the citizens and not a greed-driven ambition for position and influence.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain lamented that the political class are often too far from the people at the grassroots to know their challenges, and therefore promised a change in the history of representation in the area.

“What pushed me into running in the forthcoming election is to render service to my people. Some people think that leadership is to be in a position to acquire wealth, not so, it is an opportunity to render service and impact the people positively.

“When you have passion for humanity, you would strive to see how you can contribute your quota to making things better for the people,” he stated.

Hon Ogar, who his people nicknamed ‘Opinch, or ‘Plantation Boy’, ’also found fault with many politicians for not being genuinely close to the grassroots, saying such politicians only visit their constituencies to distribute rice prior to the election period.

On what he would do differently, he said, “I will be holding town hall meetings quarterly with my people where they can tell me their peculiar challenges. What they will tell me will guide me and will form the basis for fighting for people-focused laws.

“If you don’t have a kind of town hall meeting with your people to feel their pulse, there is no way you would have anything to talk about in Abuja. Most of our political leaders do not go home because they don’t have anything to offer. That is why they are not close to our people, but through me, my people will reap the dividend of democracy.

“If given the mandate, I will hit the ground running by advocating for and facilitating projects that directly improve lives. I will also focus on empowering underprivileged children through educational support, distributing learning materials, and providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable

“This includes pushing for better roads, enhanced security, skills acquisition programmes for our teeming youths, support for farmers and market women, and improved educational facilities across both local government areas.”

Ogar, who believed he has the capacity to win, noted further: “I can assure you that our great party, the APC will never regret chosing me to be the candidate to represent my people as accountability, transparency and good representation will be my watchword.”
