The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has declared the seat of Governor Bassey Otu vacant ahead of the 2027 elections, citing his poor performance since May 29, 2023.

PDP governorship aspirant, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, made the declaration Monday upon arrival at Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, where he was received by party members and supporters.

Sir Archibong, described the large crowd as a “movement” to rescue the state from underdevelopment.

He said: “The governor has empowered us, our people, and the party to declare his seat vacant, and we have so declared that as from today.”

He opened the party’s doors to defectors and members of other parties.

“Whether you are a member of Labour Party, APC, or any other party, this is a movement to rescue Cross River State, and we must all put our hands together to do that.”

On his part  PDP State Chairman, Vena Ikem (Esq), described the party as strong despite recent challenges, boasting capable hands like Prof. Sandy Onor (Central), Archibong (South), and Prof. Zara Akpagu (North).

Ikem predicted Cross River would produce PDP’s 2027 presidential candidate, urging aspirants to pick forms.
