Nostalgia and deep appreciation have swept across the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State following the disbursement of the third phase of monthly stipends to traditional rulers by prominent philanthropist, High Chief Higgins Peters.
The latest disbursement fulfills an ongoing commitment made by Chief Peters to support the traditional institutions within the northern zone. This round of funding covers a three-month period – spanning May, June, and July – and was paid in a lump sum as arrears.
In total, 128 clan heads alongside the five paramount rulers across the Northern Senatorial District received the financial support. Observers note that the initiative underscores a philosophy of leadership earned through integrity and sacrifice, rather than a struggle for public recognition.

Reacting to the development, two of the five paramount rulers expressed profound gratitude, showering unprecedented blessings on Chief Peters for his consistent benevolence.
“Higgins is not the richest man in Cross River, he’s not in competition with anyone; he’s just a good man with a good heart showing deep respect, love, care, and affection to his people,” the royal fathers stated in a joint reaction. “He does not owe us or anyone the good things he has been doing for the people of the north.”
The traditional rulers further prayed for his divine protection and preservation, hinting at future political support from the region should he decide to seek public office.
“We pray to God to preserve, protect, guide, and bless him more and more and increase all that concerns him. We also pray that one day he will come out to contest for something so that the entire north will show him how much we appreciate him,” they added.
Community leaders have described the gesture as part of a long-standing pattern of compassion that defines Chief Peters, widely referred to locally as a “helper of destinies.”
