IGP seeks deeper collaboration with Anambra monarchs, PGs to curb insecurity in communities

As part of his continues effort in curbing insecurity across Nigeria, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for a deeper collaboration and partnership with relevant stakeholders including traditional rulers and president generals to curbed insecurity in Anambra communities.

Disu made the called during a one-day stakeholders discussion engagement on security with the above mentioned persons and other security agencies, held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Center in Awka on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026.

The IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector- General of Police in Charge of the South-East Geopolitical Zone, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, said the engagement is aimed at strengthening collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, and other critical stakeholders for sustainable peace, security, and public safety.

He noted that the engagement which is being held in different geopolitical zones in the country, is in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to provide a platform for participants to deliberate on prevailing security challenges in the State, identify emerging threats, and proffer practical solutions geared towards enhancing intelligence sharing, community participation, and coordinated security responses.

He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing security concerns, noting that effective policing thrives on the support and cooperation of the public. He urged stakeholders to sustain their partnership with security agencies through timely information sharing and active participation in community-based security initiatives.

Onwuemelie added that the program reinforced the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to building stronger partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security and public confidence in the South-East region.

In his brief welcome speech, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Okioye Orutugu, said the State Command under his watch remains committed to supporting collaborative security initiatives that will guarantee the safety of lives and property and promote lasting peace across the 179 communities in the state.

Participants, in their separate remarks, called on the police to always respond swiftly during distress situations.

They commended the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their efforts in maintaining security across the State and assured the DIG of their continued support and cooperation in fostering a safer and more secure environment for Anambra residents.

Also in attendance include, heads of other security agencies as well as vigilantes of the State, Secretary to Anambra State Government, Anambra State Traditional Council, Members of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, transporters association, Anambra Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Members of Civil society Organisations, Members of Northern Community, among others.

The event equally featured the DIG’s courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II of Awka).
