In a major step toward fulfilling his legislative promises, the Senator representing Cross River South, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, has officially flagged off the construction of the historic 17.5-kilometer Atan Onoyom–Ito–Arochukwu Road.
The flag-off ceremony, which took place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, marks the beginning of a highly anticipated infrastructure project driven directly by community demand.
Speaking at the event, Senator Ekpenyong emphasized that the project was a direct response to the long-standing appeals of local leaders.

“This road was demanded by the people,” Ekpenyong stated. “It was the singular request of our elders and community leaders, and I am delighted that together we have hearkened to their call and begun the process of delivering this historic project.”
The lawmaker expressed deep appreciation to key federal and state leaders for their support in making the project a reality. He specifically thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, highlighting their steadfast commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.
Senator Ekpenyong also commended the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu, praising his partnership and development-driven leadership in moving the state forward.
Furthermore, he acknowledged the Board, Management, and Staff of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for their relentless efforts in bringing critical infrastructure to regional communities.
Concluding his address, the lawmaker urged constituents to sustain their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration across all tiers of government. He assured them that the party remains focused on delivering progress and prosperity across Eniong, Odukpani, Cross River South, and the nation at large.
